Cookie Policy
Last updated · 26 June 2026
This page lists the specific cookies and equivalent local storage that realfarmtalk.com sets, what each one does, how long it lasts, and which category of consent it falls under. It complements the Privacy Policy.
You can change your consent choices at any time by clicking the link in the footer.
Cookies we set
| Name | Category | Purpose | Retention | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| rft_cookie_consent | Strictly necessary | Records the consent choices you made in the cookie banner so we do not ask you again until they expire. Without it the banner would re-appear on every page load. | 365 days | In use |
| rft_demo_user_id | Strictly necessary | During the pre-launch demo period this cookie records which seeded farmer profile you are testing as. It is the temporary equivalent of an auth session token. When real sign-in launches this cookie will be retired in favour of Supabase auth cookies. | 30 days | In use |
| sb-<project-ref>-auth-token | Strictly necessary | When sign-in launches, Supabase Auth sets a session token cookie to keep you logged in across page loads. Required to access account-only features (editing your farm, posting, etc.). | 1 hour (rotated) | Planned |
| rft_feed_preferences | Functional | Caches your feed personalisation choices (category interests, country interests, follows) on your device so the home page renders without an extra database lookup. Today these settings live server-side; this cookie is the planned device-side mirror. | 30 days | Planned |
| analytics (none) | Analytics | No analytics cookies are currently set. If we add one (likely a privacy-respecting tool such as Plausible), the specific cookie name and processor will be listed here before it fires. | , | Not used |
| marketing (none) | Marketing | No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are set. We have no plans to introduce any. This row exists so the policy stays complete if that ever changes. | , | Not used |
What we collect server-side
Independent of cookies, your browser and our hosts (Netlify, Supabase) record certain technical data with each request. We treat this as legitimately necessary for operating and securing the service:
- IP address, kept in our server logs for up to 30 days for security and abuse-prevention.
- User-agent string, kept with the same retention as IP, used for debugging.
- Request path and timestamp, kept with the same retention.
Server-side logs cannot be opted out of without ceasing to use the service; they are required to operate it safely.
How to control cookies
- Click in the footer to reopen the consent banner and change your choice.
- Your browser settings let you block, clear, or scope cookies per site. Doing so may sign you out and reset your demo profile selection.
- In incognito / private-browsing windows, cookies are cleared when the window closes; the banner will reappear next time.
Changes
If we add or remove cookies, for example when sign-in launches, when we introduce analytics, or when feed preferences move to a device cache, this page will be updated before the new cookie is set, and we will re-prompt you for consent on the affected categories.
