Robotic dairy in Friesland — 140 cows, two Lelys, and more sensor data than I know what to do with. Happy to talk tech with any farmer, anywhere.

3:40am: robot alert, cow 87 refused twice. Walked down expecting mastitis, found her standing on her collar strap like a hostage situation of her own design. Freed, milked, back asleep by 4:15. The sensors are brilliant. The cows remain undefeated. Farm tech in one post.

To the farmer who messaged asking if robotic milking is "worth it": after six years, my honest answer is that it swapped one job for a different job. Less time attached to a parlour, more time reading data and maintaining machines. The cows are calmer, my back is better, my software vocabulary is regrettable. Worth it for us — but audit your own temperament before your finances.
