Glenorchy Downs Station
High-country merino station at 900 metres — 7,000 ewes, snow in the lambing forecast most years, and five working dogs who are better at their jobs than we are at ours. Shepherd's hut stays and muster-day rides opened in 2026.

Follow a genuine autumn muster on horseback: real dogs, real hill, weather as supplied. Riders must be confident at a trot on steep ground. Includes station lunch by the hut fire and the best views either of us will see this year. The muster runs on the sheep's schedule — flexibility required, photographs guaranteed.

The shepherd's hut is BOOKED OUT for the southern winter — thank you, and slightly what have we done. A few autumn muster-ride places remain for confident riders. To the guest who left a five-star review that was mostly about Meg the dog: fair, she is the best of us.
