High-country station at 900 metres in Central Otago. Merinos, a few Herefords, five dogs, one very patient wife. We opened the gate to visitors last year.

Pre-muster ride on the top block this morning. Meg (the young dog) held a mob on the bluff face like she'd been doing it a decade — her mother watched from the quad with what I can only describe as professional jealousy. Snow line creeping down. Autumn muster in three weeks.

The shepherd's hut is BOOKED OUT for the southern winter — thank you, and slightly what have we done. A few autumn muster-ride places remain for confident riders. To the guest who left a five-star review that was mostly about Meg the dog: fair, she is the best of us.
